Q: I've had no experience at all. How can I learn to sail? 

A: We recommend beginners take one of our classes. You can also receive some informal instruction from the Dock Master during regular club open sailing days.

Q: What types of sailing classes you offer, and what are the costs? 
A: We offer three types of sailing classes. Class sessions start in May and run through September.

The most basic course (4 sessions) is “Introduction To Sailing”. Classes meet on the first four Wednesdays of each of the months from 5:00-7:30 pm. Individuals sail an El Toro pram boat. The cost for this course is $48 for residents of the city of Renton and $58 for non-residents.

Another course for beginners (8 sessions) is the “Red Cross Small Boat Sailing”. It provides structured classes with a syllabus and uses the American Red Cross Start Sailing Right book as a reference. In this course, you can learn how to sail a Capri Sloop sailboat. Classes meet on the first four Thursdays and Fridays of each of the months from 5:00-7:30. The cost for this course is $158 for residents of the city of Renton and $190 for non-residents.

A new course offering this year is a three- session keelboat class. One course meets July 11, 18 and 25, another meets August 8,15 and 22. The cost for this course is $81 for residents of the city of Renton and $97 for non-residents.

Q: Do I need to be a member to take the classes? 
A: No. The classes are open to the general public. You do not have to be a Club member to enroll.

Q: When are the classes offered? 
A: From May through September.
